The Rockefeller Foundation has named its first 33 cities in its 100 Resilient Cities Centennial Challenge., and El Paso was chosen. According to its website, ‘resilient’ cities are those that “have demonstrated a dedicated commitment to building their own capacities to prepare for, withstand, and bounce back rapidly from shocks and stresses.”
Over 400 cities applied for the designation from around the world, and only 11 were chosen in the United States. El Paso will now get to hire a Chief Resilience Officer that will “coordinate and oversee the resilience activities, coordinate stakeholders, and ensure resilience is a city-wide priority.”
