City Council discussed possible incentives for a new convention hotel in Downtown El Paso at this week's meeting. City representatives and the mayor directed staff to develop a request for proposals for such a project.
City reps also agreed to decline any requests for incentives for a hotel project this year unless it is for a full-service hotel with convention-sized meeting rooms.

El Paso city council should give Jim Scherr a tax incentive to build a Courtyard by Marriott hotel next to his Double Tree hotel, I don't know why they are giving him the run around! The property that sits next door to the Double Tree is small,but would provide a quality hotel for downtown El Paso's convention needs; city council instead is looking for a much larger convention size hotel and some one that would be willing to develop such structure.The problem is that the several city councils in years past had been doing the same thing in trying to acquire some developer to step forward since back in 1972 when the convention center and civic center was first open.It's been that long since and still no developer has come forward. So why not instead give Mr Jim Scherr his request for a tax credit, might as well take advantage of this opportunity before things fall apart and nothing gets done.
