The work to complete the Cesar Chavez Border Highway managed lanes project should be completed in January, allowing El Pasoans to use a tolled third lane in each direction. The reconstructed original main lanes will remain free.
The El Paso Times reports that the $85 million project may actually be complete in December, but the toll lanes will be operational one month later. The toll rates will vary based on congestion, with a base rate of $0.10 per mile. The ability to change the rate as needed makes these lanes "managed" and not simply "tolled."
